From the February 13, 1998 print edition Maybe he'll leave his heart here this time The splashy Silicon Valley Charity Ball has booked crooner Tony Bennett to perform at this year's event, set for April 18 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. Mr. Bennett is coming not only to delight the several thousand attendees, each of whom will plunk down up to $1,000 to participate in the valley's largest single fund-raising event. This year's theme is "Silicon Valley takes a byte out of the Big Apple." Besides being a lavish fund raiser, the charity ball also garners attention for its colorful invitations, which for the past few years have been designed by Yamaguma & Associates Inc. of San Jose. Steve Yamaguma has designed this year's invite to feature a New York theme. He wouldn't give specifics, but said people will begin receiving the invitations in the mail in about three weeks.
